Updates are how a server stays patchable. They are also how a Tuesday reboot throws everyone out of the invoice they had not saved.
Pick an hour nobody is in
Set the active hours to the real working day, and allow restarts outside them. For a Portuguese office that is often 08:00 to 19:00, with a restart window after 21:00. Tell staff that a file left open overnight can be closed by that restart. The snapshot from the night before is your way back if an update misbehaves, which is rare and memorable when it happens.
Do not freeze the server forever
Pausing updates for months feels safe until a remote-code bug is being used in the wild and you are the unpatched machine. Pause across a year-end close if you must, then install the queue the following weekend. Feature upgrades (a new Windows release) are a separate decision from monthly security patches. Security patches should flow. Feature upgrades should be booked.
After it reboots
The next morning, one person connects first and opens the line-of-business program before the rest of the office arrives. If the program complains about a service, that service is often SQL or a licence dongle driver that did not start. A reboot fixes the first; the second needs the vendor. Write to us if Remote Desktop itself does not answer after an update: the console is still there.

Escolha uma hora em que ninguém está
Defina as horas ativas como o dia de trabalho real, e permita reinícios fora delas. Para um escritório português isso é muitas vezes das 08:00 às 19:00, com uma janela de reinício depois das 21:00. Diga à equipa que um ficheiro deixado aberto de noite pode ser fechado por esse reinício. O instantâneo da noite anterior é o caminho de volta se uma atualização se portar mal, o que é raro e memorável quando acontece.
Não congele o servidor para sempre
Pausar atualizações durante meses parece seguro até haver uma falha de código remoto a ser usada e a sua máquina ser a que não foi corrigida. Pause durante um fecho de ano se tiver de ser, e instale a fila no fim de semana seguinte. Atualizações de funcionalidades (uma versão nova do Windows) são uma decisão à parte dos patches mensais de segurança. Os patches de segurança devem fluir. As atualizações de funcionalidades devem ser marcadas.
Depois de reiniciar
Na manhã seguinte, uma pessoa liga primeiro e abre o programa de trabalho antes de o resto do escritório chegar. Se o programa se queixar de um serviço, esse serviço é muitas vezes o SQL ou um controlador de mochila de licença que não arrancou. Um reinício resolve o primeiro; o segundo precisa do fabricante.
